Who We Are
The Verb Foundation officially bloomed in 2022, but the seed was planted in 2010 when we began Bilingual Enrichment with the children of the Armadillo trailer park. What started as just sitting at a picnic table with drinks, snacks, books and games when the kids got out of school, soon became deeper connections with the parents.
After more than 10 years of volunteering within that same trailer park it became clear that not only were more resources needed, but the community efforts already being received needed to be coordinated in such a way to overcome the challenges that the working poor are facing to improve their general well being. We have made it our mission to focus our efforts on families in Central Texas that may be falling through the cracks.
What We Do
We aim to help break the generational cycle of poverty, and we believe that key elements to this include ensuring educational enrichment for children while providing support into the needs of the parents.
Our tuition free clubs have helped children discover new interests and improve upon skills, having hosted clubs such as Robotics and Summer Reading programs. We are currently hosting Lego Club for elementary students, where we have noticed a building of competency loops. This creates confidence within them that goes beyond Lego Club itself, builds improvement of their literacy and engages them in a willingness to learn.
Additionally, these after-school clubs often take place at a time when parents are just getting off of work or may be striving to get dinner cooked and onto the table. In our efforts to support parents, we provide transportation for the children to and from our hosted clubs, allowing an opportunity for children that may not otherwise be able to attend.
Science has proven the link between nutrition and cognitive function, and The Verb Foundation strives to harness this scientific evidence. We have provided meals to the children during school breaks, and we currently transport fresh produce for use within the homes.
We offer educational advocacy at both legislative and ISD levels, while we also serve to amplify community support efforts, ensuring that these working families are connected to available resources.
